What Founders Need To Understand About Product Marketing

    Dave Kellogg EIR, Balderton

Let's admit it. No one is actually quite sure what product marketing does, what they're supposed to do, and if they're actually any good at it. In this session, Balderton EIR (and three-time former CMO) Dave Kellogg will dive into his roots as a product marketer and discuss the essence of the product marketing role. We'll discuss: what product marketing does, who you should hire to do it, what to expect of them in the role (and what product marketers to be seen as outstanding), how to measure their effectiveness, and what typically goes wrong when product marketing is failing or flailing as the case may be. Because messaging and positioning is a key part of the product marketing role, we'll also spend time reviewing the basics of those disciplines, largely so you can tell if product marketing is executing them well.

  11. Keynote
Building A $100m ARR Sales Machine in a Competitive Industry

    Jonathan Anguelov Co-founder, Aircall

Aircall's Jonathan Anguelov knows a thing or two about success. Despite what is a crowded and competitive tech landscape, Jonathan and fellow Co-Founder Olivier took the idea of creating a cloud-based phone solution and transformed it from a concept in 2014 to a business generating $100m ARR just eight years later. But it wasn't all plain sailing – over those eight years, the company battled frequent setbacks: rejections by investors, product malfunctions, technical debt, as well as needing to undergo a huge culture shift in order to break into the US. But with determination and perseverance, Jonathan has been able to grow Aircall to be one of the most prominent phone and communication platforms today used by 15,000 companies worldwide. In this session, Jonathan will share the company's journey to date: from putting customer centricity at the heart of the organisation, to thinking more like a camel, to not rushing in with AI – and much more.

  12. Keynote

Recap

What happened at SaaStock Europe 2023.

SaaStock Europe 2023 ran October 16–18, 2023 in Dublin — 3,521 attendees from 53 countries, 164 speakers, 1,748 unique SaaS companies, and 379 active investors. It was the largest SaaStock to date and the first edition where the UK contingent (1,061) edged out the Irish home crowd (961) for the top country slot, with the United States (213), Germany (181), and Ukraine (139) rounding out the top five. The senior mix was the deepest yet recorded for any SaaStock: 1,079 C-level operators, 323 founders or co-founders, 271 VPs or heads-of.

The mainstage anchored on AI — months before most of the industry caught up. Des Traynor (Co-founder & CSO, Intercom) gave the room a first-hand account of the November 2022 ChatGPT moment: within 40 hours of the model dropping, Intercom had declared an internal code red and concluded that "the entire nature of everything we do is up for grabs." His argument — "the beginning of a new wave that will irreparably change software forever" — was the framing that defined the conference. Thibaut Ceyrolle (Partner, Atomico) followed with the operator counterpart: the lessons learned building the fastest-growing software company in Europe from scratch as the founding GM of Snowflake EMEA, anchored on the John McMahon five-time-CRO framework for picking which company to bet your career on.

On the scaling track, Amir Orad (Executive Chairman, Sisense; former CEO, Actimize) sat down with Storm Ventures' Ryan Floyd to break down what works at each scaling stage — PMF, $25M, $100M, and beyond — across two companies he scaled past $100M ARR. Roy Tuvey (Co-founder & Co-CEO, Vertice) — 23 years and three companies in — gave the third-time-founder counterpart: ScanSafe and Wandera both exited to US public buyers in the nine-figures, and the throughline he distilled was that third-time founders obsess over customer retention because the leaky-bucket version of growth is the version that kills SaaS companies in a downturn.

Dave Kellogg (EIR, Balderton Capital; two-time CEO 0→$100M, three-time CMO 0→$1B) anchored the GTM track with four diagnostic questions for product marketing — the role most founders cannot define operationally. Nathan Latka (Founder & CEO, Founderpath) closed the bootstrapped track with nine growth tactics distilled from 100 SaaS bootstrappers who crossed $5M ARR without venture capital. The investor lineup brought Point Nine's Christoph Janz, Dawn Capital's Evgenia Plotnikova, Notion VC's Melissa Donohoe, and Bessemer's Anant Vidur Puri to a single panel on how fundability was changing heading into 2024. SaaStock Europe 2024 returned to Dublin the following October.
